What is Co-Decision - EU

The process by which the Council and the European Parliament jointly come to a decision on the text of a piece of legislation.

The aim of the co-decision procedure is to give the European Parliament a role equal to that of the Council in the creation the ECís laws. It gives the European Parliament the power to adopt instruments jointly with the Council . The co-decision procedure provides for the adoption of proposed legislation in the course of one, two or three readings.
