What is Comitology
The procedures that must be followed when the Commission has been given the power to adopt implementing measures. Under the EC Treaty, the Commission may be given the power to implement specific pieces of EC legislation. The piece of legislation itself may include clauses that specify how the Commission can implement it across the Community. Usually, the Commission is assisted by a committee, which provides a forum for discussing how the law should be implemented. Depending on the particular comitology procedure being followed, the committee can influence the final form of the Commission’s implementing measures. The committees consist of representatives from each Member State and are chaired by the Commission.
