What is Uuencode

Uuencode translates all strings, this includes binary data into printable characters, making them innocuous for network transmissions. Uuencoded data is close to 35% larger than the original.

The name is derived from "Unix-to-Unix encoding". See Hex Base64 + uuencode Encode/Decoder.
